We had no record of emailing this company, but we had contacted quite a few online vacation rental places, both by email and filling out online forms for information, and weren't 100% sure if we had requested information from this company. To be on the safe side, we did not provide "Damian" with any personal information. We also contacted the owner of the property on VRBO who told us the property was already rented for that period and that it would never be offered at that price under any circumstances. We emailed "Damian" back, told him his scam had been uncovered and received an email back calling us all sorts of names.
There are legitimate websites that offer rentals by owners and are very similarly named, but there is no website specifically called "Rentals by Owners" with a contact email of "Perfect Stays 365", or a website called "Perfect Stays 365". Our first hint that this may be a scam was that the email address "[email protected]" and the email name "Rentals by Owners" were different. I don't believe that we had contacted this individual and do not know how he got our email address.
