I connected with Melissa through Thumbtack where I inquired for a personal chef in Vero Beach, Florida. Thumbtack connected me with her personal information. We emailed and spoke on the phone. Her website and Instagram were well done and active. She was a traveling chef and would be in Florida during that time, so we booked and paid in full for a dinner for 16. The agreement we signed said she would refund in full within 2 weeks if she cancelled. She cancelled the day before “due to COVID,” and we never got our money back. We emailed, called, and texted. She consistently said she would pay us back and we set up a payment plan to help, but we never received one dollar back. Her Instagram is still active and suggests she is serving clients.

Hello, I found your comment and was scammed by the same chef but for my wedding so we are out almost $5000. Same situation with her refusing to refund us except we had to unfortunately cancel our wedding and we did so within the timeframe of her contract that says we should have received a full refund. We had no menu picked out and when i contacted her regarding our menu that was past due she never responded. The only reason i chose her as a vendor was because she was recommended by someone i trusted that I’m sure has no idea she is scamming clients. She refuses to refund our money claiming she’s waiting on airline and airbnb refunds (not listed anywhere in her contract) for months now, has been so rude and unprofessional trying to make me feel terrible for canceling when she has no idea why we did, then gives me a date to pay me and when contacted on that date claimed she needs more time. This has been ongoing for months now and she has been fully paid for almost a year. She has not tried to refund a single dime and refuses to give anyone her address to send legal documents. Were you ever able to pursue this matter further and if so, did you receive a business address for her? Curious as to how long and how many people she has done this to…
