I was selling some items on OfferUp and the person said he was interested in purchasing a back machine from me. He told me he was on a business trip and wanted to buy the machine for his cousin. The item I was selling was no more than $100. I told the person I prefer to take cash only, but he sounded like he really wanted to buy the item for his cousin and couldn’t be there in person to hand me the money. He told me he can send me a check and once I cash the check, movers will come to my home and pick up the item. In my gut, I did not want to do that, but I went ahead and kind of went on what he said. Me and the so called buyer exchanged numbers because he wanted to make sure that I got the check. A few days later, he texts me and says his “secretary” accidentally added the money that I was supposed to get mixed in with money that was also going towards the movers. He said he was moving. He told me when I cash/deposit the check, the remaining balance goes to movers that he supposedly hired and were going to pick up the machine that he wanted to get. I’m thinking the check is probably not over much but when I opened the letter I was blown away. The check was close to $2,000 and the item that he said was going to purchase, I was only selling for $90. Now, he told me if I took the ad down he would ad another $10 on top of the sell. He later called and text. Sounding demanding and like he was in a hurry. I called him a few times and he couldn’t pick up my call. He text back saying he is in a meeting. Me and husband did research and there is no PG BUFORD LLC. I checked the address where the business or building was located at and it’s in Florida, but the building is vacant. I was blown away!!! I did not cash the check. The signature is electronic on the check. If I had cashed the check, I would’ve been a P.O. person! You try to be nice and kind hearted, but you got [censored] out there that take kind folks for granted! Lesson learned, don’t trust no one and when selling items CASH ONLY.
