PGE imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- Santa Cruz, CA, USA

This scammer calls businesses identifying themselves as PG&E employees. The claim your power is going to be shutoff shortly due to failure to pay. When returning the given phone number it answers with all the correct PG&E options and sound just like the PG&E answering system. One male scammer who speaks with no accent and has an excellent PG&E patter down pretends to look up your account and finds that a few months ago the seal was broken on your electric meter. A notice was sent out with a photo of the broken seal. And a deposit is required to make sure their equipment is protected. The "deposit" is close to $1000. Then you are turned over to another PG&E employee who tells you the payment must be made at a local PG&E office within two hours an cash. Their biggest giveaway is that the "local PG&E" offices are Western Unions inside of stores. I suppose they are supposed to try and talk you into sending them money from the Western Union but don't quite know how that would work. But it wasted about two hours of my day.
