Last week I received a call from Wilkin Garcia of Guide Binder. I'm an author of children's books. He claimed his company would get me a contract with one of the big five publishers. I stated that I received a lot of calls like this and was not interested. He continued to talk, provide feedback about one of my books, and state I would not pay any money. Next, he asked for my manuscript, book cover, headshot, and CV. I emailed this information to him. He stated his company - Guide Binder - served as literary agents and covered all the costs. Within 2 days I had an email letter from Macmillan Publishing. The letter was signed by their Head of Acquisition but did not list a name. The letter claimed that the value of my book was between $150,000 and $200,000 payable upon a signed contract. Then, Wilkin had James Anderson do a conference call with me telling me I needed to pay $4,000 for book returnability insurance. Wilkin Garcia kept scheduling calls and then rescheduling calls throughout the past week. I kept saying they were taking advantage of me and this was a scam. On Tuesday, January 29th, they sent me an invoice for $4,000. I was supposed to wire the money to a personal account of First Interstate Bank in Wyoming. I called the bank and reported the fraud. Now, I'm contacting you. Another important fact is yesterday when I tried to call Wilkin Garcia and the number on their website, their phone numbers did not work. Later Wilkin Garcia called me and claimed the phones were being upgraded.
