On Wednesday, December 27th, i had gotten the phone number (1-800-330-3491) for the administrative office of the Central Florida Agriculture and Labor program from their official website, ALPI.org. I called the phone number on Thursday, December 28th and a recording answers and says that i automatically qualify for a $100 retail rebate just for calling and to push 1. So I push 1 trying to speak to someone to make an appointment. A man answers and tells me that their systems are down and for the inconvenience they are offering callers a $100 retail rebate. He proceeds to tell me that there is no purchase necessary and no obligation for me to receive the rebate and that it can be used to make purchases and to pay bills and that it was completely free to callers to make up for their systems being down and asked if I would like to claim the rebate. He then asked me if i would be using my bank account or savings account to receive the rebate and that he just needed the account number to send the $100 retail rebate to. It didn't sound right to me so I declined the offer and hung up. I then called again thinking i had dialed the number wrong, but this time, the recording says that i was qualified to receive a $100 Walmart rebate, (the first time i called it said retail rebate, not walmart rebate) so I pushed one and the same man answers and I asked him if the rebate was a retail rebate or a walmart rebate and he said it was a $100 walmart rebate that can be used at any walmart, samsclub, or target stores and to make purchases online. He then tells me that there is no purchase necessary and that all he needs is my bank account information to pay a $2.95 shipping fee to receive the $100 walmart rebate. So I declined the offer again and hung up and then I called again and this time the recording said that it was for the $100 retail rebate, not the $100 Walmart rebate. The phone number i called is the phone number i had gotten right from the official ALPI website ALPI.org so I'm not sure if someone duplicated the phone number or how they did it, but I'm fairly certain that ALPI wouldnt be asking for people's bank account information to give them retail rebates or Walmart rebates. I was calling ALPI hoping to make an appointment to apply for emergency assistance paying my elderly mother's electricity bill. I knew that i had gotten the phone number from the official website for a federally funded government agency so even though the entire call sounded extremely suspicious to me, i still considered giving him my account information, just based on where i had gotten the phone number from. Luckily i didnt give him any of my information but many other people calling, desperately looking for emergency help to pay a utility bill or their rent or to buy food for their family may not be able to pass up a free $100 rebate offer from an agency that is known to provide assistance to people in crisis. I hope this helps. Thank you so much
