Piano Donation Offer - Moving Fees Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

- Omaha, NE, USA • Dec 05, 2023

The scam began with a very well written email (possibly using AI) from a Charlotte Hughes wanting to donate her late husbands Yamaha Baby Grand Piano. There were several legitimate looking pictures attached. She also stated, "If we do not want the piano, she would check with a different organization." The only request was that the beneficiary (us) cover the moving expense from the moving company that Charlotte had hired. She told us to contact them at their email address "[email protected]". After offering five different cost estimates ($1,950 next day- $1,220 3 day- $870 - 6 day - $730 9 day- $620 12 day), we still continued trying to process a payment and get this "piano" delivered. When asked to provide financial information (a W9 form) to complete the payment... the responding emails ceased. It was then that we realized this was an elaborate scam.
