My newly remodeled guest bathroom toilet wasn’t flushing right. I called United Plumbing and the guy who came out told me it wasn’t plumbed right when it was installed and in order to fix it they needed to replace all the cast iron pipes under the house at the opposite end of my house with pvc pipes (kitchen, 2nd bathroom, laundry room). Additionally, he said a clean-out needed to be put in outside my house. $3500.00. All this to solve the flush problem in the guest bathroom? He lead me to believe it was a drainage problem and this was what had to be done. He saw the toilet problem and was aware of what it was, but he decided to turn it into a different job and ignore the toilet. I should have gotten other estimates, I know, but I assumed they were a reputable company….well, you decide.
Later, when I found the toilet was still not flushing right, I called them back and a different guy came out this time. He said the toilet problem had not been touched. There was even an open pipe that was leaking raw sewage into the crawl space with every flush and there was standing sewer water under my house. So, it was misrepresented to me that to fix this, all the cast iron pipe removal was necessary, which it wasn't, and they didn't touch the toilet problem that I called about. The cast iron pipes were draining fine, there was no problem there... the toilet was just put in wrong originally. Then to now finally address the toilet problem I had originally called them about, they wanted to charge me another $800.00. in addition to the $3500.00 I had already paid... for something I didn't need and didn't ask for. When I refused to pay more, they eventually said they’d fix the toilet at no additional cost.
I don't know if this intentional deception was a case of preying on a woman or just a straight up scam to get more money, but I paid a lot of money for something I didn't need or ask for and I didn't get my toilet fixed.....until much later. Will I be using them again? What do you think?
The business owner now says we had an agreed upon resolution. That's not true. I was glad they finally decided to fix the toilet without charging me another $800. But the fact that I am out $2700. means there is no resolution here. I want other people to be aware of what happened to me so they can avoid being scammed. What I called about was a toilet repair but they turned it into another job that was unnecessary in order to get more money.
