I was in-need of a job and have been job searching for about a month now ? I got as far as depositing the check into my account... no word yet of what will happen with it. Most likely it will be canceled through my bank.

I was scammed by these people and before I noticed anything was wrong I had already deposited the check then tried to give the money back. I had the check issued as fraud, but im not sure how these scams works... If anyone can help please contact me @ [email protected]

Portola Pharmaceuticals “Company” emailed me Interview Request links at 3:27am requesting I download and call in for interview by 8:00am that morning.
It was signed by “HR team” with no phone number, address, or company logo.
I looked into the pharmaceutical group and it does exist. However, it is important to distinguish between Portola Pharmaceuticals Inc. and the “company”.
I do not know what would have happened if I logged in but it is a scam.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Promoted Job Application on LinkedIn. E-mailed me to initiate a virtual chat interview via a wire app such as Signal and then promised me a job with all kind of information regarding said job. Finally, they asked me to get a check for $2400 which would be emailed to me in which I would then need to print and deposit for myself to pay their vendor who would also not identify, I might add, the software vendor's name or legitimacy. The name (Operations/Hiring Manager named himself as one Mr. Franklin Stone and the account name on the Signal profile was literally just "Office Desk"... These people are well informed. They know how to fall through the cracks of LinkedIn and other trusted sites like this. Do your research. I immediately felt funny about the validity of this whenever they asked me to deposit a check from me and for me but to promote their vendor equipment. I believe if I had allowed this to go any further, they would for sure have my banking info or use me for identity theft. Everyone is hurting right now, not just honest people trying to make a dent in their pocket to survive and privide, but dishonest people who are lazy and criminal... they are hurting too. So just keep that in mind. Scamming is a job too and theyre getting better and better everyday with new methods. I reported this before notifying them so that they cannot just trash the evidence.

They got me… I’ve never been scammed and was in desperate need for a job. I didn’t realize till after my deposit what was going on. I’ve been fighting with my bank to close my account, but Wells Fargo customer service ended @5pm. Tomorrow the funds will be in my account before it’s closed. I don’t know what’s going to happen all I can hope is that the check was fake.

They emailed me offering an interview for a job. Email began with "Hello Applicant" and tey wanted to use Signal or Wire app as a method of contact. They also texted me, when asked to provide proof of legitimacy, they did not respond.
