Charlotte said that if I was willing to pay it that day, that they would offer me a payoff amount of $391.74. That's when my suspicions kicked in and I told her I would call her back after I investigated further. I called back less than an hour later and told the female who answered (Katie) that I needed specifics and all details regarding the "bill" because I was considering consulting an attorney to straighten everything out. She stated that since I might be talking to an attorney, I had to give her the attorney's telephone number before she could give me the information I requested. I said goodbye.
In the meantime, I did some research and could find no company by the name of Financial Recovery and Collection Services. I did locate a company called Financial Recovery who assured me they had no debt they were trying to collect from me. I also spoke to a lady at Alliance Diagnostics and my name is nowhere in their system for having any labs performed.
Glad I listened to my inner voice and did not pay this over the phone. I really do hope this was indeed a scam because I don't want any black marks on my credit.
