Type of a scam Online Purchase
The scammer running this site claims to be running a marijuana despensery out of Colorado. (I was getting CBD oil for chronic pain)
Normally I'm not an [censored] but I have to admit this time I was. The person had, what I now realize, was an intentionally confusing paragraph of instructions about how to pay for said merchandise. Knowing that marijuana is not legal in all places, I thought that it was normal that paypal or just credit card transactions were not allowed and so I tried Bitcoin which failed for me then I saw that there was an option to pay via Amazon Gift Card.
I submitted my purchase, sent the e-gift card to the email address provided which was [email protected] , and then also emailed the person who runs the site to explain to them why I paid via amazon even though I chose the Bitcoin option just to keep away any confusion.
The next day I get an email from someone who clearly doesn't speak English as a first language and they tell me I will get an email when my product is registered and shipped. Which I didn't even ask about but whatever...
So a little while later I get an email saying it shipped and also got the email saying my 65 dollar card I sent was accepted. Awesome! It all worked...
NOPE. It did not work.
This person has the nerve to email me and inform me that they could only use 30 dollars of my gift card and that they 'clearly' said in the instructions that only purchases 300 dollars and above can be made with the Amazon cards. They demanded that I go to a store, buy a 100 dollar gift card and pay them double what my order was.
HA. NO.
I go into anger mode, email them back telling them that 1. I do not have that kind of money and they have no right to demand it from me. 2. if the card was not enough, why did they accept it and not just return it and tell me to redo it? and 3. I had even sent an email explaining what happened before all of this so me 'owing' them could be prevented.
Right after I hit send it hits me, this sounds just like all the scams I've seen in my years of working from home and seeing ads for 'job openings'. The whole 'buy us a gift card and we'll do this for you' mess. Yeah, it dawns on me that i'm a [censored].
I google it and see that they've ripped off several other people so here I am, screwed out of 65 dollars. I contacted Amazon and all they would do is give me 10 bucks of promotional money or whatever you call it. But I get why they can't just refund me cause any Tom, Dick, or Harry can message them saying they were scammed to get money from them.
All I wanted was to purchase an oil to help with chronic pain instead of having to take pain pills and this person did this to me. I work hard for my money and don't have a lot of it so it just makes me so angry. I don't even know how to explain it and there's nothing I can do about it except let other people know what happened and hopefully help them.
Also, they went as far as to send me a fake shipping website with a tracking number that has 'info' about my 'sent package' and they are using the address of restaurant in Colorado to say that's where they are operating from. They also are using a company out of Jacksonville to hide their identity when you try to look at who owns the website.
It also goes without saying that I did not receive said package today. Please be careful, yall! I have super internet savvy and so cautious and somehow had a moment like this. it can happen to anyone!!
