I signed up for freelancing on freelancer.com hoping to get extra work from home. This person contacted me via freelancer and told me to email them at the email provider. It was my first freelancing job so I was unsure that asking to email could lead to a fraudulent business. They asked me for my home address for customers to send checks to. I said I was not comfortable with that, they asked me to get a P.O. box. I did. Then they sent a check upwards of $2000 and asked me to deposit it. Then after that asked me to wire $900 each to people I didn’t know within the US. I soon realized that this was sketchy and may be illegal and i was not comfortable with this. I used cash app to send the person all of the money after continuous back and forth of trying to get me to wire money illegally. I then notified freelancer.com of the incident, who then alerted me that they banned this user for not following freelancer.com policies. I told the person I would no longer work for them and to not contact me. I immediately closed the P.O. box and all other forms of contact.
