Family member purchased a gift card at a market. It had been in wallet for a long time. When I went to use did not work. When I called they ask for a 3 digit code one back but the card had a 4 digit code. They said the card was damaged and I needed to fax them a picture of the front and back as well as a copy of my driver's license. When I questioned why, they said they needed a valid Iid to mail me a new card. It seems super suspicious and I did not face them any personal information.

Exactly the same approach others have reported. Web site won't register card, they claim fraud, you need to do XYZ to get a new card, including sending a copy of your ID.

I had a second card lose $240 for awhile, but it was already registered. They said there was an ERROR on that one and mailed a new card that I used right away.

I photographed the proof of both cards, receipts of purchases, letter they'd sent to me with the replacement of card #1 (showing my name and address).

Sending it all in an upload wouldn't work/no sign of receipt and no confirmation when I calied. Next, I faxed it all, but reps said they "never received it." I faxed it again, and reps all say "it was too light to read* (says "a separate department"...they cannot see it themselves). Even though I did photos with extra contrast, no blurring etc., they cannot read it?! I haven't heard of a bad fax in decades.

I even got proofs of the faxed pages and the documentation was very large.

I tgrh tried to upload the info again, and the site wouldn't allow it.

Same response when calling again, and again....they couldn't read the fax, see my picture, etc. All the same lines of feedback.

I

The issuing bank disowns responsibility, so does the selling merchant. "Call the number on the back of your card."

I've called the merchant, visited the merchant, sent proofs to merchant too, used their gift card hotline multiple fimes (help ranging from following up on the case to "call the number on the back of the card,") reported it to the FTC, called two Visa contacts (one was not the same Visa as used by the card), had a person from Visa #2 call with me (and person at card services wouldn't tell me what her company was. She got a supervisor who would't allow Visa rep to speak. Suggested i needed to keep doing the requirements. No comment over errors. Silence, Diversion, Terminated Calls.

So many other calls. Even went to a US Bank branch and they negated needing to do anything, "we just let them use our name."

It's like the 3-way crimes on the streets during the holidays. Disown, distract, etc.

I did not trust them to have my ID which wasn't up-to-date at the very moment of "needing to send it." If they can't protect their main product, how would they protect my info--and why would they even need it? They already got my address for fraud card #1.

Many cards including govt say to not copy actual cards (that's even for those with no photos). The enclosure with card #1 replacement, the Customer Agreement, stated no requirement for ID. Website does say that (but is probably less of a formal "form").

Many runarounds, much evasiveness.

Found nearly identical case histories going back to even 2017 and complaints numbering into the thousands. ("How are they still in business?")

The fraud is theirs.

My mom received gift card valued at 500.00. After several failed attempts to use the card despite registering in her name she called company and they told her she was not owner of account and the card had zero balance. They requested her drivers license and phone # to prove she was owner of said gift card. Claimed they could not read card number she faxed. Would not let her talk to anyone but person who answered the phone and would not tell her who “presumed” owner of card was. Total scam.

ABSOLUTE FRAUD. Two different gift cards from two different family members showing a ten cent balance. I have two separate family members that spent their money on gift cards from this institution within a month. In both cases, the cards were supposed to have a $25 balance.

I literally opened up the cards from their original packaging, registered the card on their janky website only to find someone else had registered them and depleted all but ten cents from the balance.

Customer service was worthless: They needed to talk to the "original cardholder" (which is me, but the website is showing a different person in another state - I googled this person and they don't show up on google as a human in existence.)

They wanted me to FAX A COPY OF MY DRIVERS LICENSE along with images of the gift card in order to dispute the charges.

A company committing fraud wants me to send them a fax of my drivers license! RIGHT!

Screw this company - they are either intentionally committing fraud or they are grossly negligent to fraudulent activity affecting their cards and not able to prevent it from happening.
ABSOLUTE FRAUD

Some cards are depleted and somehow registered at the time of activation.

When you call the number at 1-888-853-9536 get ready to be lied to and not helped even if you are the victim and you purchased the card. They may or may offer ways for you to verify it. They lock you out of the site, Block the card, and then attempt to reverse valid transactions that had authorization.

I am not sure why these are still being carried in grocery stores. US Bank is the issuer and will try to transfer you right back to the 1-888-853-9536. They will try to get you to validate the card with the registration information ..the name, etc. Now, how are you supposed to validate that information if the card was already depleted before you even got out of the store?
USBANK does not take responsibility for knowing you are getting scammed.

I predict they will eventually change the 1-888-853-9536 number as well.

Also be aware, that the reps at USBANK will give you the number at 1-844-241-1886 if you explain to them that the card is blocked and the 1-888-853-9536 hangs up on you. The will tell you to fax your receipt and ID to the 844 number to prove you purchased it. Some may have gotten luck. But it's not even clear where that fax number is located. It could be in India just like the customer service at 1-888-853-9536 is mostly.

Oh, and if you validity purchased this card and try to use it. You yourself may be flagged for trying to use a lost or stolen card and may have to explain yourself as to where it came from or upload a receipt.

Some people have said that Kroger management made them whole, that may depend on the location and when you bring it back to the store. Most who have complained seem to be out of 100s of dollars, some less though.

My daughter received a gift card for her 16th birthday from my friend with an a receipt and activation on it. We tried to use it in the store and it was declined so I called the gift card company which is www.prepaidgiftbalance.com and they told me that the card was not under my name and told me to fax a request to change it into my name together with my ID, and back and front of the gift card. I called them after 3 days per their instruction and I was told that the fax was not readable so I faxed it again enlarging the documents and called them back same answer not readable. To make the story short I faxed it 4 times using a different fax machine to make sure it’s clear but still they were telling me it was not clear. I faxed the documents they requested 4 times, called them ten times with the same answer, I asked for a supervisor but they kept on saying that there is no available supervisor because they are busy.

This PREPAIDGIFTCARDBALANCE.COM company is a SCAM. Please take a necessary action to take this business down. They are taking money from so many people.

I purchased a $100 prepaid Visa gift card at Smith’s Food and Drug. On the receipt it shows activated. When you try to use it in-store on 5-16-2022 and it didn’t work. We tried to register it online at prepaidgiftbalance.com and the card comes up invalid.
I called 1-888-853-9536 prepaidgiftbalance for help from Customer Service. The message stated you will get a new card before I even talk to Customers Service Rep. In other words, they knew that cards are compromised. I’m not sure why they are letting retailers Activate their compromised card numbers in stores.
I talked to someone at prepaidgiftbalance Customer Service and they tell me they will send a new card in the mail. So we got a replacement card yesterday 5-27-2022 with my name on it. We tried to register the new card on prepaidgiftbalance.com and someone used it at Albertsons on 5-18-2022 for $99.95.
That prepaidgiftbalance phone number is a joke. I call that number from 12 P.M to 5 P.M. I was on hold a lot and 5 representatives hung up on us. A few times it’s transferred to ReliaCard ( AKA U.S. Bank ReliaCard) which tells you there are 1000 customers in front of you waiting for a Representative, I call back then 185 customers waiting for a representative, and I call back 216 customers in front of you.
When I did get a representative from overseas they ask for 8 digit number on the back. Which the new card does not have and they hang up on you. The in-store Visa card has a barcode on the back. The one sent by Customer Service does not. After the 5th hung up from the representative I ask for a Supervisor. She helps me but I’m denied supervisor again. I have to refer to the 8-digit number on the in-store purchased card to get assistance.

She said that I can dispute the charges that are made. So I answer some questions over the phone then she tells me I have to Mail the Card Holder at PO Box 551617 Jacksonville, FL 32255 or fax it at 855-532-8180 if I want to have the disputed charge reversed. If we Don't do that we get nothing. It’s a big scam that cardholders have to go through because their card numbers were compromised before purchasing. If it’s a inside job they can find out when the cards are instantly activated and use the funds.

These cards should be pulled from retail stores.

If you look at these websites other customers have had the same problem. Scampulse.com has customers experience of this prepaidgiftbalance cards

This is a fraudulent/ scam gift card company. I can't believe retailers are carrying this product and this company is getting away with fraud. If you buy, receive a gift a giftcard issued by prepaidgiftcard.com please be aware that they you will not be able to spend it. They cancel all transactions and illegally steal money that consumers have used to purchase the gift card. Avoid prepaidgiftbalance.com fraudulent company.

After reading several reviews of the same situation as my own, it is clear that this company steals the money from the gift cards you purchase by creating a fake transaction and claiming somebody from another state/location had registered the card before you and spent the money the day you bought it. Then, they ask you to fax your personal information (Drivers License, Social Security Card, etc) and that they will call you back or help you out, but they never do. It is theft and a scam through and through. I wouldn’t be surprised if they also do identity theft after getting your personal information.

We received a $100 gift card from our grandmother. She provided the original receipt and when we tried to use the gift card it was rejected. We contacted the store that our grandmother used to purchase. It was purchased at a Ralph's in Encino. We spoke to the Ralph's manager and they told us the card was loaded and that the gift card company issued a faulty card. We wanted to make sure that this was accurate so we went to another Ralph's and we were given the same answer. We first contacted prepaidgiftbalance.com around December 27, 2019 and spoke to a few representatives who told us it is not an issue on their end. We spoke to Ralph's again and they told us again that the issue was with the gift card company. We spoke with Kristy who advised us to fax over the original receipt, and the front and back of the gift card, which we did. She told us she would get in contact with us as soon as she received the fax. We waited a week and no contact from her whatsoever. We called back on January 9, 2019 and spoke with Cynthia who told us to go back to the store and talk to the manager, but there was no point in doing this because we went twice and nothing was resolved. The situation escalated and we spoke with the supervisor named Steven, who was no help at all. He told us the same thing to go back to Ralph's, we asked him to to speak with Ralph's on their end he said there is nothing he can do. What was the point of having us fax the information to them if they were going to tell us to go back to the store again? This company is scamming customers with gift cards. This is how they make their money.
