Type of a scam Online Purchase
The customer service rep she spoke (She thinks the name was Tiffany), told her the only way to get the special deal she was getting was to order the two supplements together, but no worries, you are still only paying shipping and handling for them, so it will only be $4.97 and $***. My daughter thought, ok, its a good deal to get two great product for less than $**. So she said go ahead.
When the bottles arrived at our house, this was the first I'd heard about my 17 year old ordering diet pills online. I kinda freaked out and read the labels and did a bunch of research on the ingredients. Come to find out, the main ingredient was listed as a potential harmful interaction with the anti-anxiety meds she takes. So I suggested she not take them. I also asked her about the deal she ordered. She was confident that it was just a sample bottle, and she'd have to notify the company if she wanted more.
Fast forward 2 weeks. Her bank calls her about suspicious activity on her account. The company put through 2 separate charges, one for $*** and the other $***. When she called back to inquire on them, she had no idea what the charges were for, they didn't have a company name or account number attached to them. There were phone numbers though, so the bank told her to call them and see what she could find out. She called, and talked to another Tiffany. Who proceeded to tell her her trial had ended and she hadn't called to cancel so they charged her the full price for both bottles. She said her trials was a special 30 day and that she had tried to cancel but they basically wouldn't let her. The "customer service" rep then told her there was no record of her call, these were legitimate charges, and there was nothing she could do. My daughter informed the lady that she never took any of the pills and she wanted to send them back for a refund. The lady said that wasn't possible.
Furious, I called later and spoke with a Jessica. She was NOT a customer service rep. She was a ghetto, street corner, drug pusher!! She spoke in a degrading and loud voice, cutting me off and completely disrespecting me as a parent and human. My issues were two things. 1 How did my under age daughter buy this on their website? and 2. Why wasn't the potentially harmful drug interactions listed on the website as a warning? She told me these warning were in fact on the site and the buyer had a drop-down menu to put in their birth-date that the site wouldn't let them continue, so my daughter lied. I asked to speak to her supervisor or manager. So she patched me over to their "fraud department" so they could proceed with charges against my daughter and then they could "give me her money back."
The lady who answered identified herself as "Desiree customer service rep." I said I asked to speak to someone in charge, she then changed her response to say she is the floor supervisor. I explained the situation, to which she too got nasty and started bashing my parenting. I explained that even the bank didn't trust the charges and there was something fishy about it all. She said she could give my daughter 35% back on both charges. So what, like $64 I said no that won't do, she needs a full refund, she was tricked and shouldn't even have purchased them in the first place because of the drug interactions, and again addressed the issue of why a minor was able to purchase them. She too took on a nasty degrading voice and criticized my parenting. Then told me I'd have to take this up with the bank if I want any help getting money back.
Deflated, I set out on a search to figure out more about this company and their background. They don't really exist! There are hundreds of ads all over the internet, Facebook, Instagram, you name it. All with this girls' face Claiming she found a solution in college. Come to find out this company has stolen this girls' image and she's no way related to it. They also have multiple hard sell landing pages all with different names and faces, different pictures...NONE of which have a birth-date drop down, and none of which clearly outline the trial period and what you are actually signing up for.
The bank wasn't too helpful after sharing this information with them either. They said they could dispute the charges, but because of the nature, VISA would reverse them. There is NO PROTECTION for these kinds of things! They said to try the other customer service number and see if we could get any farther with them. So we did.
Now I got to talk to a really indignant lady who wouldn't even let me speak. I told her we weren't even trying to get our money back anymore, I wanted information on their company so I can make a report about the bad customer service we received. Every time I mentioned ScamPulse.com or legal issues, or asking for information on the company, I could hear her mute me, and then a click and then she would come back repeating what she'd said before or following up on a previous question. She was trained to block out my questions from the recording! When I asked to speak with her supervisor she said it wasn't possible, too high of call volumes, all were busy with customers. Say what!? Ok, I'll wait. No, that's not really possible, she tried to push me back off the line, I demanded. She finally patched me over...to which I did have to wait nearly 20 minutes to speak to the ever so polite and subdued Amber Jones. Supposedly the head of this call center. I continued to ask for information about the company, the name and address, because at this point we just want to make a report about the terrible customer service. I told her the address given to me was a mail box at the UPS store, to which she assured me it was the warehouse number that she was looking directly at at that moment..even though she couldn't give me an address. I asked who she reports to, all she'd say was corporate, no names. We never got anywhere with her. She said the only way she could do anything is if I called back with an attorney AND the bank on the line with me! And even then, anyone in the call center would give them the same determination as she would, because they'd have access to her notes. Still not helpful.
So my 17 year old received a huge life learning experience this week.
