Type of a scam Counterfeit Product
When discussing payment I asked for the website where I could start the process and submit payment. He suggested CASH APP (Red flag 1) I asked him to send me an invoice that maps out the services he was going to provide and the break down of the costs so I could have something. I provided my email...He was sly about it and sent a request to pay via cash app anyway.
After an hour (ignoring the cash app text) I called him at 818.581.7159 (the cell number he'd called from in response to my original inquiry) and told him I hadn't received an invoice yet and wanted to get started with the documents. He said asked me to take a picture of the docs that I'd received so he could get started on preparing the documents that we'd previously discussed and the invoice would be on the way he said the team was just super busy at the time, which was understandable.
I send the photographs and got an invoice via paypal. The agreed amount for the preparation of documents was 150.00 (USD) but the invoice said 159.00 so, thinking nothing more than they added paypal processing fees I went ahead and paid through the invoice... My payment bounced BACK after a few minutes but I didn't see the email right away (Red flag 2)
I contact him again saying "hey the payment has been made, how soon do you all think it will be until I receive the documents?" He responded that the documents were completed but they hadn't received my payment. Confused, knowing the money was in my account I told him perhaps my account is short let me look in to it because paypal said the transaction was complete.
I called my bank and sure enough the money had bounced back but was pending (3-5 business days to review the attempted transaction) so now I had the money but obviously something wasnt right on their end so I wouldnt have access to the 150 until the next week (like it was on hold or something it was weird)
So I borrowed the money from my family member and started again. (Really naive on my part but... We all have been there in one way or another trying to give people the benefit of the doubt)
I slept on it then the next morning I asked him via text if they had a chase account. He said yes (Red flag 3) I thought " then why didnt you suggest that in the beginning?!"
He provided the account number and I easily transferred the funds via Chase online money wiring system ZELLE.
NOW...we get to the BS... The money has been received with confirmation at this point. I contact him via text and ask if they received it and if we could expedite the services.
Rich responded, we have not recieved payment, we are working on other cases and wont be able to get around to you until after lunch. I said "You led me to believe my documents were completed but are you sure you all can't get the docs out within the next hour, the courthouse closes early today"
His response... " No! Find someone else to work with" I responded " Okay, so when do you plan on refunding the 150.00 I jumped through hoops to pay you for services now considered unrendered?"
His response..." IF the money is there I will refund it"
Later that day he sent a text confirming receipt of 150.00 USD and said that he would submit a request to refund. I said okay and moved on to someone else. (A paralegal who actually completed the job with no drama and no reservation who could have been him smh) its been two weeks and no refund. I decided to research his name WITH pro per legal 911 and lord!!!... The complaints and scam alerts are deep! I admitted to myself at that moment I'd been "taken", "$cammed" and started the process of reporting him and his business to everyone including Paypal, Cash App and Chase. As of now these three companies are investigating and a two out of three have placed a red flag on any accounts associated with pro per legall 911.
After speaking with the police station in Van Nuys California which is where he is said to be stationed out of I was advised to submit my complaint to BBB. I'm taking it a step further and making a police report right after I write and submit this claim. After thw police report is in I will be making my way down to the local court house and filing to take his scamming a$$ to small claims court. His last known address is online. He is working out of a bail bonds office (ironically he'll probably need them if he keeps scamming people) in Van Nuys California and supposedly has an office set up in Sacramento California. I'm not concerned about the 150.00 its now about the principle... If you cross paths with Richard Santos or Pro Per Legal 911 do not work with them. They're smooth talkers but they've got some cracks in their foundations... The best legal advice he gave me was... " Find someone else" so Im passing it on. If you look online you will see that mans name plastered across scamalert.com and if you take the time to read the yelp reviews far back enough (which I did not clearly) you will find similar complaints to mine... A LOT of them. Don't get taken.
