Type of a scam Debt Collections
Person called our house number, my parents house number and my brothers cell phone. They were claiming to be a process server and that we had to be home today to get a summons. My wife called the number from the voicemail: 866-548-0428. A gentleman answered and wouldn't give his name. Started talking with my wife saying that there was a debt from 2005 that hadn't been paid and that they were going to serve papers and file a lien on our house and then foreclose on the house. My wife has no derogatory information on her credit report and she doesn't think she even did business with the bank the person said. Rattled her very much. The person then started rattling off her date of birth my date of birth and SSN number as well. I quickly froze my credit report after hearing that and my wife already froze hers. (She had some identity theft a little over a month ago) Our call sounded the exact same. They had put my wife on hold and told her they could settle the debt today and not have to add attorney fees if we could pay over the phone. We tried calling the person back after thinking about it a little more and doing research. We were going to say that we disputed the information they had and were asking for information like Personal Name and Law Firm, address, city state. The person on the phone got really rude and said "I know what your doing" and got mad and hung up the phone. I'm glad we were able to see the same phone number listed here showing this is a scam. I feel bad for some people if they fall for this because the person sure did sound convincing.
