They asked for all my diplomas through grad school and my ssn card, and then gave me a contract to sign without mentioning that it didn’t match the offer of a 3-month 1099 position and instead stated a 2-year contract with fines to pay up to $10k if you leave before one year and don’t give at least 90 days notice. Their website is full of typos. They offered me the job on the spot and asked me to sign the job offer right then. Thankfully I had family members look it over first. I’ve never seen that kind of a termination clause where an employee has to pay for losses of the company due to services not being provided by a former employee. I thought California is an at-will employment state?!
