An auto renewal email received with the total listed double the amount for auto insurance. Had an unexpected phone number with links to accept and renew account. Called company from app; received an agent from home working and stated that my 17 year-old permit driver was now a licensed driver and sent to an underwriter. The underwriter sent me to another customer service agent who said that I lost discounts that were not able to show itemized amounts but from start of policy at $498 to renewal as $1282 for bare minimum two drivers and 4 vehicles. These cars all are paid off/owned, between 2013-2005, and driven less than 4k per year for 6 months of minimum coverage & no claim or marks on drivers record for 10 years. During the previous 6 months of coverage no claims or changes. I believe that this was a local scam due to the jump in price and no change in premiums to gain commission and alter under-the-table coverage to others not policy worthy. Bait and switch maybe- my very common vehicle always needs the vin for input where other company quotes are exactly available without adding it. Changing the owner name “new quote same policy” of the policy would result in half the price; why renew for over double the amount for only 6 months of bare minimum. Renewal is a scam!
