Progressive Supplies Medicare Phone Call Phishing and Medical Equipment Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

- Dallas, TX, USA • Nov 27, 2023

Around Oct. 8 or 9, I received a phone call from a woman who said she was calling from Medicare. First asked if I had received my new Medicare card yet. I said no. She asked for the dates on my existing Medicare card so she could check. I did give those dates but not my Medicare number. She said my Medicare card was good for five more years. Then said that I had not received benefits from 2018 for wrist supports and would I like to receive those. Then she verified my name and home address so that they could be sent to me. She then said she was transferring me to the company that fulfills their orders. It was something like Progressive Supplies. They verified my address and said that they would be sending them out. Ended the call. Then for the next week or so I kept getting calls from area code 214-343 - all a variation of the 343-XXXX number of my home telephone with no identifying name. I kept blocking because I thought it was a scam. I received many calls, one day received 20 calls, and finally started looking up via internet to see whose numbers they were. Wrote down many of them and found names attached that I'm assuming were really legitimate phone numbers, some of people in Dallas, and some from other states. Two company name came up, WestRock Corp. and AVnet, Inc. I looked up those and found that WestRock was not associated with anything such as medical supplies. It was a company that deals in paper products. Both seemed to be out of business.

I was badgered repeatedly and finally answered one of the calls. Asked why they were calling me so much. She said they only wanted to make sure I got the product.

Today I received a box shipped from UPS that contain two wrist braces. It bears the label of Progressive Supplies Stat, 15101, US Highway 19, Hudson, FL 34667 along with paperwork that requires a signature for permission to bill Medicare. Address on the form is POLO CMS, INC., 1700 S. Dixie Hwy, Suite33432, Boca Raton, FL 33432. Forms look legit. Phone numbers are given for their manager, OIG hotline 800-447-8477, and consumer hotline 800-633-4227. Of course I am not signing and returning the form. Will find out about returning the product to the company.

Of course there was no mention in the phone called from the "Medicare" rep that I would have to sign anything.
