I was contacted via text stating my resume was found on LinkedIn and that I was qualified for a WFH data entry clerk for Prothera Biologistics. I then needed to download and create a Microsoft Teams account to complete a virtual interview with the hiring manager Kelvin Minston. He proceeded to ask normal interview questions and later told me he would be emailing me an offer letter for the position. He then asked me to download, sign, and electronically deposit an emailed check into my account to purchase equipment that could only be purchased from their vendor. The check did not clear, thankfully, then he said they would send me the equipment but I needed to purchase the software. The software had to be purchased from their vendor as well and I could pay the $500 through CashApp or Venmo. Throughout this time, I kept telling him that this process did not sound right and he kept giving reasons of why the hiring process was done this way. I eventually declined the job offer and told him all the red flags he was giving.
