I recieved a letter dated 10/9/2023. It was information regarding my student loans. It was a very formal letter. In an attempt to keep my student loan payments out of default I contacted the number. The person told me " they were the student processing center for the Department of Education. He asked me some personal information and told me to hold while he found the federal foregiveness program I maybe eligible for". This was a huge relief to me. As I owe some 60,000 dollars in loans. He then told me I was eligible for the Public service loan foregiveness program. It would cut my pay back time in half, which seemed legit because of my employer. He then went onto tell me the process. How my loans would be paid in full to Nelnet and consolidated into 1 loan. I being so worried and I guess gullable believed him. It wasnt until toward the end that he went over the payment plan. I would pay 333.00 on 12/11, 333.00 on 12/26 & 333.00 on 1/9. Then my monthly payment would be 49.00 monthly for 120 months. Then came the paperwork, which was sent through clickX. I was still under the impression it was all on the up and up. I signed the papers electronically and gave my bank routing number & account information. The man that said his name was Justin told me Id be receiving an email from the Department of Education within 24 hours with our agreement and I needed to sign those papers and enclose 2 pay stubs. This was time sensitive. I hadn't received the email by Sunday 12/10/2023. This is when I finally became suspicious. Here I am now wondering when they will take my money & how much.
