One of my members was a victim of a "love scam". A person contacted her and alleged that they would send her money from a Punic Credit Union. They gave her a website, login, and password information. I visited this site with her and the site looked impressive. The login and account information worked along with several of the links I tested. However, upon further research, Punic Credit Union is not a chartered credit union with NCUA.gov the national governing body of credit unions. Additionally, I looked up the office location of their main office and it stated that it was available for immediate rent.

This entity is posing as a US based credit union from Atlanta, GA. This is NOT a credit union and is asking consumers to share personal information via their website. Consumers are also being pointed to this location as part of an intricate “love scam”.

Additionally, I have contacted NCUA.gov as the governing body of all credit unions to be aware of this situation. This is an elaborate website, and it is my understanding that it has been operational for a little over a year, there is no telling how many consumers they have “taken” over this time.
