I was looking through my local Craigslist for a puppy for sale. I clicked on an Ad claiming to have affordable Golden Retriever puppies. The Ad also told me to visit their website, Pupsdogs.com, for more information. Their site looked very professional and tasteful. Most importantly, the prices for the puppies were meager compared to other sites. I was very excited. I clicked to reserve a puppy and was told I needed to deposit a deposit. I did. I was also asked to pick a date for a zoom interview. I did. A day or two before the interview, I tried to reserve other puppies to see if, during the interview, I could ask about them as well. However, they canceled the interview day and said it was because I had wanted to reserve other puppies. I was upset and wanted my money back, but I was still hoping that getting a cheap puppy would happen. Naively, I ended up putting down another deposit for another puppy. Then they told me that they did not need to interview and that they would deliver the puppy as soon as I paid the total amount. That day I mentioned this to a friend, who yelled at me and told me to please be careful that this sounded like a scam. I felt very embarrassed I had fallen for it so quickly. Needless to say that I have asked for my money back several times to no avail. I hope my story helps others avoid losing money and time. But an even better outcome would be that these thieves would be caught and stopped from hurting anyone else.
