I saw an ad on my local Facebook neighborhood page saying this was a small local company needing support. I contacted them and received a quote of $250 for a list of services. I asked some of my friends if they wanted it as well so they lowered it to $200. When he came he was nice but within minutes he quoted me $3500 because my vents had some clogs and told me if I didn’t do it my furnace would go out within 6 mos to a year and it would cost $20-30,000. I told him I needed to speak to my husband. He followed me while I made the call in my bedroom. My husband wanted a second opinion and told me he would make a call. While doing so, the technician just stood there while I folded clothes. He creeped me out so when He asked if he could keep cleaning I said yes assuming he meant was included in the first initial quote. 10 minutes later my husband called. He discovered the quote was outlandish and the cost of a new furnace replacement was more like $9,000. I told him we had decided to go a different direction and asked if I could pay him for his time. He said he had already put his “industrial vac” down my vent and couldn’t turn it off for 30 minutes and that he would only charge be $1500. All he had was a small tool bag and a large portable vacuum. Nothing connected to a van like they had advertised. I was sick, realizing I had been scammed. I told him I would only pay what I had authorized $200 and began recording. He refused to back down from the $1500 so I insisted he contact his supervisor. He finally called a woman and she also would not back down. I have her the name of the individual who posted on FB and asked if that was her boss. She said no, he was the head of their “marketing team” - so much for local small business. I told her I wouldn’t pay more than what I had agreed to and authorized. In the meantime my neighbor overheard and came to the door to make sure I was okay. I was on the phone with the supervisor so the technician answered my front door!? Turns out I’m glad he came because when the technician realized I was recording he got very angry and loud. I asked him to leave and he refused until he was paid. His supervisor sent me an invoice and I paid. He said he needed a picture of my ID next to the invoice. I just wanted him out of my house so I reluctantly agreed. I paid $200 to have a vacuum hose put down one vent and for him to wipe down three vents. He didn’t do what was promised with the basic clean, but said he had done a “deep clean”. I have everything documented in the event they try to take more money or my identity. I just don’t want anyone else to experience what happened to me yesterday. Beware.

So, I got the estimate from the person that made the post in our Facebook neighborhood group and set the appointment for this morning (2/16/22) after discussing it with my husband. My window was 11 am- 1 pm. At just before 10, the tech called me and asked if it was okay to go ahead and come. I asked for a few minutes to finish what I was doing and crate my dogs. We agreed he would be here at 10:15 am. 10:30 I called him back to ask if he had gotten lost and if I could give additional directions. He had put in the address for an appointment later today. He finally got here close to 11. So he gets in, starts inspecting the ducts. Then comes to me and says that for the price I was quoted they would only do one of the two returns in my house. That to do both and to sanitize for the bacteria that he could somehow see even with no special lighting/equipment, that it would double the price I was quoted. I said, whoa, that is NOT what I was told in the extensive message conversation I had with the person that posted to my neighborhood's Facebook group, nor in the email I requested they send me so that I would have the details to discuss with my husband. It was also not what was advertised in this post in our neighborhood group, which I also showed and screen shot for him to send to his supervisor. After talking with his supervisor he came back and said that they would vacuum both registers, but it would not include sanitizing, etc. for the price quoted. At this point I was not happy. It was a scam, a bait and switch scam. I told him I understood it was not his fault, he was doing as trained/told, but that their company's lack of training of their employees, etc was not my problem. I was promised specific service for the price quoted and I was not going to pay double to get all that was promised- to the tune of over $400.00. Oh, and to clean the dryer vent was an additional $100.00. They would move the dryer, look at it and show me, but to clean it was extra. I told him that I did not feel I wanted to spend my husband's hard earned money with a company that would indulge in such a shoddy business practice, and that I would appreciate him taking his ladder, I would close the garage door and we would call it a wash. I cannot, in good conscience, not make others aware of what happened this morning. So please take care in dealing with this company. I had detailed documentation and they were still trying to not just upsale, which I can understand, but to more than double the price of what was promised. I will not include the messenger conversation, nor the email as they have identifying information on individuals, but do have it in the event it is needed.
