A woman named Rosier Kimberly posted an ad for a cat who, apparently, lost their owner due to a death. I inquired about the cat and was met with this response:
"Good Morning. Thank you for choosing to adopt rather than buy from a breeder/shop. And sorry for the delayed reply. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families and outside commitments. Layla, the Maine C o o n Cat, is still available for adoption. Tomorrow is the rehoming date for Layla, meaning the Cat will be open for adoption starting tomorrow. All of our Cats go to foster homes for a minimum of 6 weeks in order to gain temperament information. The rehoming date is when the Pet completes its foster period and will be available for adoption after spending time with a trainer for evaluation or basic training. Please be aware that the demand is much higher than the supply of Pets and the wait is very long to get a Pet, but we have sped up the process. All of our Cats in our care are currently in foster homes while their needs are being addressed by their loving foster parents and the expert help of our veterinarians.
We are not in a hurry to rehome the Cat. We just want a good home for Layla where she will be spoiled rotten. Layla is 2 years 5 Months old. The cat is well socialized and currently living with a dog, a parrot and 1 other cat & they all get along perfectly well. No fault of her own. Her previous owner passed away, and the family surrendered the Cat to us. We got a hold of the breeder and the breeder told us everything we needed to know. Unfortunately, the breeder had moved to Japan, and we could not return the Cat to them. The cat is harnessed, house-trained, & doesn't scratch or destroy furniture. She does not bite. Loves to cuddle. Layla is calm at night & doesn't meow at night or nip . She is desexed and up to date on shots, so She has been tested negative for FeLV & FIV and has no health issues. She's an indoor cat & sleeps with her hoomans.
The previous owner was in Moosonee, ON so the Cat is currently being looked after in the private home of our foster volunteer located at 12 small street, Moosonee, ON P0L 1Y0. Hence, the Cat is based in Moosonee, Ontario. Where it was surrendered.. Do you have a date in mind for viewing or would you mind delivery? Either ways work for us. We have a process in place to move Animals to their new home. We are familiar with the transportation process, so we can have the Cat transported. Better still, come take a look . Personal pick up welcome .
You have to promise us you will take very good care of the Cat. Also, owning a Cat/Dog/Bird is a lifetime commitment. They are family members and are not to be caged, left alone or to run loose where they live.

It was at this point that I was pretty sure this was a scam. I thought maybe this person might be a French-speaking person, so I followed up, just to see where it went. But it seemed strange that they would provide an address and one that, not only, doesn't seem to exist, but the town is actually impossible to get to.
I was met with this reply which confirmed all of my suspicions:
"Hi. I hope you're having a productive day. We are glad to know that you have had tons of experience with Cats, so we think you are well-equipped and have an understanding of vet needs, routine and dietary requirements for felines.
Do you have vet records for your 2 cats? Because you have other cats at the moment, we NEED to make sure they are feline leukaemia/FIV free. So you have to send through the vet records of your current pets so that we can move forward with the adoption.
Also, We have hastened the adoption process and Layla is ready to go in a short order, so no hoops and hurdles needed to jump through to get Her. As a result, we won't be able to contact your vet or references at this time to see if you have a food track record with animals.
Please also send through a pic of your yard or spot in your house where Layla will be staying, just to make sure it is a suitable place for the Meow.

They went from not wanting to rehome this cat quickly to hastening the process in one day, and the language has degraded significantly.
I replied to see if I can get any further conversation, but it's been over 24 hours, and they haven't responded.
I did a bit of digging into the website and came upon several things that just don't add up. I've listed a few of them here:
- None of the vet services, donation sources, and locations where someone could send in donations, don't exist.
- Their founder, who apparently died in 2021, doesn't have an obituary or any other information online.
- All of their animals don't seem like they are rescues. They're all very clean, healthy looking animals. They have some pictures on their Facebook page, but not many.
- Their Facebook page is run by 4 admins located in Cameroon.
- Kimberly has also added herself to several buy / sell groups around Ontario, where they post the ad for the cat and then remove it a few days after.
