I had backed into my garage door and could not get the automatic opener to work. I am 68 years old and didn't try the manual thing, because I would not be able to lift the door, anyway. I was given a quote of $6050 and paid a deposit of $1800 with a check. After the guy left, I felt kinda weird about it. Should have done my homework first, but.... Nothing I found on-line or by calling other repairmen came close to my current quote. He was going to replace the door, motor and all the accoutrements. The closest amount I found was for approximately $3500 and all of the others were much, much less. They showed up today to install the new door and I refused to let them do the work. I had another company come out and for a $65 service charge, he was able to get the door to work and used some WD-40 and now I'm fine. I did stop payment on the check, so am not out any monies, but feel like it was a scam.
