Type of a scam Employment
please be aware of any messages you receive regarding remote job opportunities, I know times are hard but it can be a lot harder if you fall for these scams.
On June 13, 2022, I started to receive a lot of messages from a person named "James ******* stating that he had a remote positon from "OUTSYSTEMS", then switch it three days on June 16, 2022, later to "RACKSPACE TECHNOLOGY", I don't know why I did not question or seem to be skeptical of this, maybe because they actually attached my LinkedIn. I ignored it for a few days and eventually decided to reply back to the message. They sent me a Code *********, that I needed to send to a hiring manager by the name of "Nathan *********" via Skype or Telegram. I proceeded with skype which is the only thing I was familiar with at that time. Fast forwarding the person actually responded and was very professional, I assume that the interview was going to be a video call however, that was not the case, he stated that we are in a "progressing world and text messaging can now be a form of interview" ....how dumb was I!!!!.. the interview was completely instant messaging. there are a few red flags that I should have picked up such as; the fact that he gave me no information or communication information other than his name. Second, when I asked him about information that was on the hiring document, he was very lost and had no idea what I was talking about. I ended up sending him a lot of personal information such as my SS, address, and phone number. The whole reason I figured out it was a scam was that my bank charged me $12 for a deposit return fee of the check that "Rackspace technology" sent to me for "equipment". The Scammers provided me with tracking numbers from FedEx, for three different checks, in which one only arrived. When I asked about the other two checks Nathan told me to forget about them. he told me to provide him with proof that I deposited the check, so they have a part of my account number. In addition, I called the bank which issued the check and they notified me that they have a lot of people send fictitious checks claiming it was from their bank. so then I really confirmed it was a scam! The moral of the story is please be careful, and if you were like me and did get scammed contact the credit bureau, your banking institution as well as all other credit and personal information institutions to have them flag your account and help monitor any unfamiliar actions. Stay safe out there it's a dangerous world
