Today I receaved a phone call from a collection agency and talked with an agent there named Scott. He said that I had a debt to a company called Readers Discount Center, a magazine supscription service for $755.36. He also said that I had authorized monthly charges against my credit card for $49+ for subscriptions to seven magazines and that in the year 2013 my card was charged six times and that the seventh charge did not go thru, so that the continuing charges added up to 755.36 dollars. The subscription was stopped when the debt got up to that amount. I did occationally receive mailings of unwanted magazines which stopped arriving in the mail over a year ago. I did not know who to call to stop the mailings and the post office does not return periodicals. I told Scott that I had never requested any subscription to any of the magazines he said that I had agreed to. Also, I have never seen any of the charges in 2013 for the 49+ dollars on any of my credit card statements. I called my Credit Card company and the agent confirmed that there were no such charges at any time in 2013. Scott said that he was authorize to settle this debt with a payment from me of $500. I indicated I would not be willing to pay for anything I did not subscribe to. Scott said that a statement will be sent to me in the mail. This is the first time anyone has contacted me about this "unpaid debt."
