I have been looking all over the internet in search of a three bedroom rental property in my local area. At some point I end up on craigslist searching through rental property classifieds and coming up on one property at which point I wanted to check into further so I took down the phone number linked to the property address on the site and that if interested to reach out to this so called "landlord." Long story short its a rental scam Im now aware of and that its one of the most common frauds being done to people. I was offered pictures of the property but told he wasnt available to meet that he was out of town but still wanted me to fill out the rental application to go ahead and begin the process along with sending photo copies of my Drivers license and my social security card. A couple days later he reached back out to let me know that I've been approved and asked if I was ready to make my deposit and first payment in order to start the lease process and then be able to arrange to get the keys. Now I realize and see the red flags i missed. I went ahead and made a call straight to the property management and spoke with a local agent who confirmed the whole scam.
