Upon arriving very late the technician was instantly antsy and acting weird when he saw my car. His job was to very easily break into my car (locksmith) and I couldn't if made it easier with my key fob facing him on passenger seat, that's all he had to do to open my car door. He saw my car door handle was half ripped out when I was trying to get back in my car and used that as an excuse to come up with some $185 story. He started telling me bs about why it should cost that much and how he can only get in from driver side door. (I do mechanics and instantly knew he was full of it) he asked me how I pay. How much I have. I told him I'm not paying $185. I can replace the whole door lock actuator with a brand new one from a certified garage for less than that after tax. He asked me to show what I have. I told him I have cash and flashed my wallet. He literally wanted me to open my wallet pull it out and count it in front of him. ** *** *****. I showed how I had $110 cash on me. He says okay, all of it, but I don't give guarantee.
What!?!?!
He was trying his hardest to NOT break into my car to delay time and make it look difficult. I was literally instructing him and telling him to do it my way and he got in my car in under 5 minutes from the time he arrived and then demanded I give him the cash, all of it.
Here's the fun part. I literally chose the first company I listed online, which is pretty competitive. What I didn't realize is if I check their horrible reviews, I am not the first person that this exact scam scenario happened to. Someone listed a review of literally the exact same thing happening to them. Calling to have their car door opened and being harassed for $185 before tax for no reason when you could just call a taxi for $40 instead.
I've never seen a practice like this in my life! But I sure hope someone can do something about it and get rid of these people, he didn't even show up in a registered or marked vehicle. Most locksmiths I've ever seen DO.
