I was texted a job offer by this specific number that I have provided. A lady named Ms. Joan Smith from Remazel Engineering S.p.A claimed they reviewed my resume that was posted for an administrative assistant/data entry role. The starting salary was $35 hourly (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) Monday - Friday (full and part time). It’s strictly an online role. She then proceeded to ask if I have zoom, Skype, signal app, or telegram downloaded to get connected to someone from Human Resources. I should’ve known right away it was a scam due to the hourly pay and I had a feeling I never applied to this company.

To continue, I download the telegram messenger app and she tells me to send a message to a lady named Anabel Andruss. This was Annabel’s link on Telegram Messenger: https://t.me/Annabelandruss123

Ms. Joan Smith told me to send Anabel a confirmation code stating “REMAZEL-2022” to start the conversation. I message Anabel & she proceeds to ask a series of questions like my name, age and where I live. She then calls me twice because I wasn’t responding fast enough to her. Everything was done through this messenger app due to the companies location in Italy and me being from the United States. After her being pushy by calling more a few times after while messaging that I wasn’t responding fast enough, she asked me more questions. This was going on since October 12- October 17. On October 16, she asked what bank I operate with. I told her, but I did not give any information based off my credit/debit info or even account and routing number. Today, October 17, she told me I got the position and told me the company would send me a check to buy their vendor products from a discount and to buy any other necessities for a remote role like a laptop, high speed internet, etc,. I knew then, if I gave any more information, my bank account would’ve been hacked or they would use my name, age, and location to use me as identity theft. Despite me saying I accepted the job, I didn’t have a good feeling because it was all too good to be true.

Anabel then asks me for my name, address, city, state, zip code, cell to enlist in the company’s database for proper documentation in compliance with the onboarding process. She said that it’s required from the accounting department for the mailing of the check. I then put my foot down and I don’t want the job anymore. I know they are scamming individuals like me and it’s fraudulent. Anabel never responded back.

I want to help young applicants like me who are naive and inexperienced at the job world with scams. Most people tell you to trust recruiters because that’s their job. The issue is, how much can we trust people behind a screen stealing our information? Unfortunately, this was a position offered from a company based in Italy but the roles were available remotely in the United States. As someone who is in dire need of professional employment experience, this was a sign not to go further.
