I had been searching for a job for some time.. Out of the blue I rec'd a text from a person (Mang Kim) indicating my resume had been selected and to download this messaging service (Signal) and contact this hiring manager (Wendy Meertens) for an online interview. I looked up the company (Renewi plc) and found it to be legit although the home office was in the UK. The mgr was able to "explain" that they had a support office in Delaware and were opening a branch in Albuq and needed support staff. The online interview lasted over 2 hours. It included lots of information regarding the company (that matched the website). The questions asked during the interview were good questions - but looking back at them i realize they were just playing into my need to get the job. The next day they emailed me the job offer, W-4, I-9 form, and Code of Conduct form after I gave them my email address. They would furnish all equipment and software, but they would need to send me a check and name of vendors, I would deposit the check and then pay for everything out of my account. That was my first red flag, but I thought that as long as I waited until the check cleared the bank and there was no chance of it coming back I should be ok. So I moved on. I received the paperwork via email, filled it out, scanned it back with my signature and copies of the documents (drivers license and SS card) and emailed it back to them. DONE. Employment secure. But it was nagging at me so I dug further in to the company and found the Human Resources area on their website. I emailed the manager of Talent Acquisition with the information and unfortunately her response was:

We regret to inform you that the Renewi name is misused in a fraudulent and non-existing recruitment process. We understand you have been offered a job in Renewi’s name at a yet-to-be-opened new Renewi location in the USA and are now involved in a fake interview process for this purpose. We would like to stress that all information shared with you around this recruitment process is false and spread by false accounts. We would like to confirm the acclaimed job does not exist and that Renewi will not expand into the USA.

So this "scammer" tried to deliver a package via FedEx today (12/29) which I assume would have been the check for the equipment they would have wanted me to purchase. She gave me the tracking number and wanted me to notify her immediately when I received the package for further instructions. By that time I had rec'd the email from the HR in the UK, so I refused the package from FedEx.

When the person contacted me asking me to confirm that I rec'd the package, I informed her I refused to accept it. And that I had been in contact with the company in the UK and now know that the employment scheme is a scam and the she was a fraud. And I know that they have stolen my identity and I have reported it to the authorities.
