I applied to a job on Indeed to a company called Renova AB. This position was for a remote Data Entry/Administrator. They seem to be a real company based in Sweden that focuses on renewable energy. They did the interview over Telegram Messenger and I was told I got the job. They sent me several, several paragraphs about the company and what the job entails, so it didn’t seem like a scam at first. I have not spoken with anyone over the phone about this job, just over Telegram Messenger. They sent me a W-4 and an I-9 form that I filled out and sent them, so they now have all of my personal information. They said that I would need equipment for this job (laptop, printer, copier, etc.) so they sent me a check in the mail to my address. I received the check and it was for almost $5000. They said that $192 of it would be my sign on bonus, and that I would have to use the rest of it for paying for the equipment. I went to the bank to deposit the check and that was when I was notified that it was most likely a scam check. A hold was put on the check.
