Applied for an apartment. Was asked for first month's rent, second month's rent, a 3rd month's rent, 2 security deposits and a management fee, all totaling $10,225 without signing any paperwork or meeting anyone in person or seeing the property itself. When I withdrew my application, I was sent a check for $12,500. I contacted them about the overage and they requested the overage to be sent back. I waited until the check cleared, sent them the overage, then a week later they put a stop payment on the check for $12,500. I was told the extra charges were for a lack of rental history, but I've been renting the same place for 20 years and they have my current landlord's information. After the stop payment, they've suddenly stopped responding.
