Our contract had us pay half the money up front, and the rest at contract completion. With a completion date of 4/18/24. I went out to survey the work completed on 4/20/24, and realized that the job wasnt going to be completed. 4x4 posts for the railings that were installed were cut at incorrect lengths. Only a small section of the spindles were installed, and those were screwed in only at the bottom. Some wood that was installed was cracked all the way through. There were no supports installed. The wood meant to replace the rotten supports was not fastened to the structure correctly, and the entire portion of the deck that had rot was left unsupported.
I called the contractor to voice my concerns, and we got into a spat. He demanded that we pay him half of the rest of the money to finish the contract. Which was not in our original agreement. He showed up at our house at 11PM that Saturday, and we gave him another $483. He gave us a receipt stating the contract work would be "worked until both parties were satisfied". He never showed up again, and we have to take down what work was comoleted on the deck due to how bad each piece of wood was cut.
