Received email about hotel I booked was unable to access my information. The links provided seemed very legitimate and linked directly to the booking site. It stated that I would lose my reservation if I didn’t update the reservation information. I did so-using incognito mode- but it said it couldn’t verify my card information. Today I received this from the hotel.

On Wednesday, November 13 2024, Next House Copenhagen, part of Arp-Hansen Hotel Group ("Arp-Hansen" or "we"), became aware that several guests had received phishing messages attempting to steal credit card information. Arp-Hansen immediately acted to contain the incident and initiated an investigation with the assistance of external experts. Unfortunately, further investigations have shown that malicious third parties gained access to guests' reservation information and used this information to send out phishing messages. So far, according to Arp-Hansen's information, the data has only been used for targeted phishing attacks against some guests, but we cannot rule out that other guests may also experience phishing attempts.

What information is involved?

The personal data that malicious third parties have accessed and extracted includes name, phone number, email address, address, nationality, reservation price, room number and type, arrival and departure date, contact preference, travel agency, and information about the payment card type, card expiration date, and the last four digits of the card number, ID number, type of ID and when the ID expires. It is important to emphasize that your account information has not been accessed.

The scammer accepts hotel reservations at one rate over the phone and then changes the rate with new amount in an email confirmation. Reservation desk also adds hundreds of dollars in taxes and fees on top of the changed rate and then refuses to make any changes or offer a refund once the customer realizes what has changed. When attempting to dispute the rate, Reservation Desk also will make the customer wait 5-7 business days per request to draw the process out longer while never offering any resolution.
