Young man came to my condo door (inside hallway) and said he represented the energy provider for National Fuel/National Grid and said I had been overcharged by $18 and they (Residents Energy) needed to credit my account. I asked if they handle the energy for everyone in this condo association and he said, "yes". (At this point my neighbor came into the hallway and said she was told the same thing). He asked to see my bill, pointed out my current rate and said I was overcharged. I invited him to sit at my table ([censored] me!) with my neighbor present, and he asked for paper to write down his name, #, confirm #, and customer service #, then dialed the "home office" where I had to verbally confirm my name, address, and National Grid/Fuel accounts. (The gentleman on that line had a very heavy Spanish accent and was difficult to understand) Then this gentleman on the phone started talking about insurance $ to cover my HVAC...at this point, the lightbulb went off in my head (FINALLY!) and I realized I was being scammed. I refused to confirm the rest of the sign-up process and told the agent (KW 704-XXX-XXXX) that I wasn't interested. He left his contact info for me. The "Customer Service" rep on the phone said "thank you for your time" and hung up. K was going to knock on my other neighbor's door; we told him they weren't home and he left.
I invited my neighbor in to discuss what had just happened and I told her I would contact the BBB.com today, which I am doing now. I will also alert my neighbors and the condo managing staff.

A person knocked on my door saying that they were from the village of Palatine and that they were there to let me know that my comed bill was changing its utility rate from .14 cents to .5 cents.

He said he was from residents energy and he told me all of my neighbors had also agreed to sign for a new utility agreement.

I told him my account number with comed and my address and signed the new agreement, then realized it was probably a scam.

I was approached on Friday 4/21/23 around 4pm by a person working for Resident Energy. The name he gave me didn't match what was on the paperwork for agent's name. He went into the saving money pitch and asked me my utility and if I knew my rate, which I didn't. I had to open my app which he then proceeded to point out my current rate, and next rate increase, and guarantee that his company could lock in a lower fixed rate so I don't have to worry moving forward. I agreed to sign up, he then proceeded very comfortably to maneuver my phone and his as he brought up the signature boxes for me to sign on mine, not allowing me the opportunity to read anything in regard to the document I was signing. I learned my lesson. Once the document was sent to me after signing and he left, I read it. Not only was my rate fixed at a rate almost double my current rone, there was no guarantee it wouldn't change. So completely false advertising to the program they are supposedly selling. I tried calling the number provided to rescind my enrollment immediately in which I wasn't even able to leave a message even though the option was voiced in the recording. I then sent an email to the one provided and got a auto response back saying someone would contact me the next business day. Monday came and no communication from them what so ever. Still not able to leave a voice mail. It took me 2 separate phone calls today, both with wait times over 50 minutes. Nicole, who picked up at 5:01 pm, when they close at 5 was helpful in cancelling my account, but told me it may not come off for 1-2 billing cycles with peco. Why would it take that long for something that didn't even start? I made sure I wouldn't have cancellation fees being within the 3 days they give to rescind enrollment, which she insured I wouldn't. But if they would have stayed on my billing cycle I would have owed them. There is something not right with how this business conducts itself. Not only are they impossible to get a hold of, they are purposely deceiving people and doing the opposite of what they say they program is for. There have been complaints like this dating back years on your website for this company. I don't understand how they are able to still do this door to door sales pitch. I have already spoke to PECO and will confirm by Friday that they have indeed cancelled it on there end since it didn't reflect it in the system yet. I hope you can save others from having to go through this frustration.

A man whose badge identified himself as Calvin Spencer who works for Residents Energy knocked on my door to state that Consumers Energy had contracted him to provide Consumers Energy customers with rebates due to having overcharged them. He said that Consumers Energy had contracted him because they did not have enough employees because of Covid. He is actually trying to get you to switch to Residents Energy. Do not show him your Consumers Energy bill or provide your Consumers Energy account information. He will send you a link via text message to sign stating that you want your service switched over.

Showed up at door telling me I didn’t fill out necessary paperwork required for my electric bill. Showed me fake copy of a bill saying they needed to correct my information. I knew from past they were lying. I asked about permit and they didn’t have. I told them I was going to check on permit and they left. Very sneaky and deceptive practices by this company.
