Type of a scam Travel/Vacation/Timeshare
I attempted to contact the company listed as the hotel operators "Luxe PGH" and got a text message back with a key code for the front door and for the door of the unit I rented, unit 1B.
The front door was open. There was no door to unit 1B - it appeared to have been kicked off its hinges and was lying in the bedroom of the apartment. All of the furnishings and belongings had been disassembled and laid in piles in the middle of the rooms. There were no lights or electricity. It was as if someone rented the apartment, was evicted, and the landlord was in the middle of removing their possessions.
I tried several times to contact both Luxe PGH and hotels.com by email, phone, and text message. I never received any response from Luxe PGH. Hotels.com told me they asked Luxe PGH to refund me and because Luxe PGH said "no," there was nothing further that they could do. My credit card company also told me the most they would do is refund me 15% of what I had lost. The Pitsburgh police told me they do not investigate crimes of this nature.
If you look at reviews online for "the Elliott Hotel" in Pitsburgh, you see that this scam has been perpetrated on dozens of other people.
No one seems able or willing to stop these fraudsters from listing units they don't actually possess or are actually habitable as luxury hotels, keeping the money, and stranding travellers. PLEASE HELP!
