I was contacted about a data entry job I applied for on LinkedIn. The interview was held through chat on the app RingCentral. I was accepted for the position and the recruiter Ashley Irwin emailed me a check for $4959 to deposit to pay for a computer and other home office equipment. My bank initially accepted the deposit and the money cleared into my account. Then Ashley Irwin instructed me that I was to pay their vendor directly for the home office equipment and had me send $1000 of the check I received to Kristina Jason through Zelle. The Zelle transfer was not an instant money transfer so she then tried to get me to go to a Walmart that day to transfer the remaining money. I did not do this, and the following morning the check for $4959 had been recalled and taken back out of my bank account. I immediately cancelled the Zelle transfer to Kristina Jason through my bank but the money was taken from my account and I’m hoping the cancel went through fast enough to receive it back. I tried for the entire day to reach Ashley Irwin through RingCentral chat, the main way she communicated with me, and she did not respond at all after numerous attempts at sending her messages. I had another email for HR so I emailed them twice as well asking for someone to contact me by telephone and didn’t receive a response. This was a Friday so on Monday I continued to try and contact Ashley Irwin and the HR email without a response.
