Type of a scam Romance
He used photos of a celebrity named Joe Cross and called me several times a day for four months.
I am in the middle of a messy divorce and he preyed on my vulnerability.
He claimed that he had lost his laptop and needed me to send 5000 via cash to a person named Barbara in California to help him purchase new equipment. I did so in middle March of 2022. The package was intercepted in Chicago and it is currently May 3rd. I have yet to see a refund check as promised by FedEx in 6-8 weeks.
Hopefully I will receive the funds back.
Additionally he asked me to open several bank accounts in my name which I did.
He also asked me to transfer funds from an international account worth over a million dollars,
I did attempt to do that unwitting thinking he loved me and wanted to be together with me as soon as he returned from Greece.
He also mailed me a check for 45000 which I attempted to cash at my credit union and it bounced causing the bank to put a freeze on my account and subsequently closed the account. This frightened me and I have now got to apply another bank account for my direct deposits.
He called and texted me at least 5 times a day over several months
My friends and coworkers were very concerned for my safety and recently urged me to block him on Facebook and on the phone. I began doing that on May 1st only to receive more calls and texts from at least ten other phones including 706-740-0087 and 620-557-0081.
He became very angry with me and began threatening me to expose my pictures and personal information including my social security number and drivers liscence to others including family and coworkers of which some he had attempted to friend on Facebook and had an e-mail address for my brother ****. He also threated to tag my photos and expose them to my 15 year old daughter on Instagram.
I reported the events yesterday to local authorities who said not to send him any more funds and to continue to block his phone numbers.
I feel very hurt and angry over this and didn't know how to describe my experience to others.
