Rotor Investments Ltd. Scam, Frances Matlock Scam
I was first contacted by Frances Matlock through email July 27 2023, as I was told that my CV was forwarded to the HR department of Rotor Investments Ltd, and that I was free to apply to one of the many open positions that just opened up. At this time, I was looking for a second job to accompany my current, minimum wage one, and was applying on LinkedIn. However, I had not sent any CV to any recruiting company, but it was publicly available on my LinkedIn page. The contracts and documents also seemed legit. I applied for whatever part-time positions they had, and was accepted as an administrative assistant the next day. I would be reporting to Frances for this position.
Our correspondence then moved to Telegram. Throughout our exchanges, Frances' messages were embellished with a lot of professional, yet vague language. She sent me official "welcome videos", where she seemed to be reciting a script, and showed me her ID to communicate her legitimacy. However, I was given two different reasons for why I could not visit their office - at one point, she mentioned that there was a sickness outbreak at the Calgary office. At another point, she said that the office was being prepared as they had several new locations opening up, and hence was unable to provide me with an address.
Upon me providing my void cheque information, she told me that I would begin my training on Thursday (10 August 2023), and that it would be conducted by her accountant. Her accountant asked me a few brief questions, and then challenged me to prove myself with my first task, which would involve going out to purchase new materials on behalf of the company, with an invoice promised to me. He told me that Frances would provide me with further details.
When I got back to Frances, she asked me to send her a video of myself showing her my ID for security purposes. I brought up my concerns, such as the fact that my first task involved going out to purchase something, the fact that I was hired before I was interviewed, the fact that a Google search of Frances Matlock provided the twitter account of an actress and no manager, and the fact that I had not spoken to the woman in the videos on a call or a video chat at this point. When requested that she clear my concerns, she explained that she had no authority to interview me, even though she was the manager of her company (as mentioned on the website). She then offered to terminate the contract. I offered to continue if she could talk with me over the phone to clear my concerns, but suddenly, she had too many obligations to chat with me. I tried to arrange a suitable time to talk, but she then allegedly was advised to terminate the contract as I would not comply, and then later blocked me on Telegram.
