Total money lost $90
Type of a scam Online Purchase
On June 8, I wrote back another email explaining there was no way that this $2 buffet tong was worth $90. On June 9, they replied, "We received replies from customs and logistics companies.
Our return address is overseas. If you send the item back, customs will charge you a lot of customs duties, charge us a lot of import duties, and we don't necessarily receive the package safely and quickly, so we don't think it's wise to ask you to return the package.
After our discussion, we don't want to waste import duties, it's better to give this item to you.
We would like to ask you to keep this item, but we can no longer send you the item in your order, please understand.
If you really don't like it, we can give you a 10% refund and you can keep the item, you can give it to someone else or resell it for a good price. If you are not satisfied with the 10% refund, we can negotiate more partial refunds, please rest assured.
What do you think? We look forward to hearing from you."
A couple of hours later, I replied, "As you see, I paid $89.94 for the two Blackstone griddles that you're now telling me I won't receive. I want the refund for $89.94. At best, your ridiculous little tong is worth $1.83, so if you want to be reasonable, a refund of $88.11 is reasonable. Anything less will not be accepted." We have continued to exchange emails on June 9, June 11, June 12, June 13, and June 14, with the most recent email offering, "After discussion, we can refund you 30% and you can keep the package. We are unable to receive your returned package due to the high import duty on luxury goods, I hope you can understand.
You can keep the package you receive. This is the most refund and best advice we can offer, I hope you can accept it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us again."
Bottom line, the saying, "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't" has been reaffirmed.
I have notified my bank and they have reversed the charges, but this is my story to help other suckers like me realize there are no amazing deals to be found on the internet.
