Type of a scam Online Purchase
After the first appearance in the August publication we did not think it was out of the ordinary to receive a request from a foreign wholesale company wanting to purchase product. The people who contacted us were Cheryl Langley and Beverly George. They both purchased quantities of our product - and wanted us to send by a shipping company they claimed gave excellent service to customers overseas. This company was SampExpress Delivery. Cheryl Langley gave me the website and contact information for the company. I went to the website and it looked legit and so I contacted the shipping company. You deal with one person: Felicia Collette, the Customer Service Representative. You are requested to send all of the appropriate information for shipping - dimensions, weight, pick up location and delivery site. You are requested to wire transfer the money in advance of pick-up. The customers add more product (orders) to the shipment, saying that they should be able to get a discount on the shipping price for a large delivery. The customer's is billed for both product and shipping - then they start to pull back the payments by disputing the charges - while the shipping has already been wire transferred. At first you think that the customers are the fraud, and then when you stop the order and try to get a refund you realize that it was really the shipping company - that was the ultimate fraud.
I believe that these people pray on website owners - and mainly people within the music industry - because a later search shows someone on the BanjoForum asking about Cheryl Langley who wanted to buy several of their instruments. We were burnt, we lost a significant amount of money...but if I can prevent someone from falling from this double level fraud - then there will be some justice. Lesson Learned - Always select YOUR OWN SHIPPING COMPANY. And, if possible sell overseas through a company that acts as an intermediary with foreign outlets. Just because we have our own websites - it does not mean we have to also sell to overseas wholesalers. There are companies you can pay to be your middle man - who have better noses to sniff out these frauds that small business owners.
