Type of a scam Home Improvement
Came into my home to give me a quote on over 2,200 SF of replacing carpeting with vinyl plank flooring, painting, wooden stairway/painting banisters/pivets, new baseboards and installing existing baseboards. This man verbally deceived me into believing he was a licensed General Contractor in Florida when he had been licensed in Dothan, Alabama prior to being arrested on 2 Grand Theft felonies and charged and convicted on one count by a jury and admitted guilt on the second. Unfortunately I found this out after he damaged my home and lied about the damages and was unable to properly perform all the services he committed to. It was over 2 months before I realized this was never getting done correctly and saw the damage he created. Recently found out he is hiring people to do work (subcontractors if you will but I'm not sure they are actual true subcontractors) and not paying them. Performing work that should require a General Contractor license and not having any liability insurance to cover his work. Not providing me with any documentation I was told I would receive and requested twice via text messages. I have pictures, text messages and a licensed General Contractor to prove all he did or didn't do. I was forced to terminate him since he left my house in a shambles and went on vacation only to come to my door alone thinking he was going to fix two tiles and one that he agreed to repair after telling me in Pasco County you need to be a licensed tile repair company. He started working June 10, 2019 and on August 15, 2019 wasn't even near completion and he told me the entire job would take three to four weeks. He brought in a woman that he goes to church with, his son who was here for a month during the summer, two other underage children and a flooring guy who is (according to Sam) losing his eyesight eventually and another lady that helps him. He has a website The Shabby Craftsman and is posting deceiving pictures and pictures without homeowners permission in writing or verbally. Comes across as a southern country gentleman who is a church going God-fearing man. You can google his name and read all the articles pertaining to his arrest and conviction in Alabama. I am posting this so nobody else gets taken advantage of or told that he can do a job that he is not capable of doing. Now I have to hire a true licensed General Contractor to finish the work and pay additional expenses I thought I was going to be provided by him. This has also resulted in health risks for myself and my family.
