I had initially contacted this person, Mason Roy, on May 19, 2023 about his Craigslist posting for an available apartment for rent at 541 N 1st St El Cajon, CA 92021. My initial phone call was not answered but he did text me to start an apartment rental application process. He also texted me that the fees for processing will be refundable. To make this long story short, I ended up paying Mason Roy $650.00 through Christina Raxter (his lawyer) and Tijuan Wilson (his coworker). Thats a $50 application fee and $600 rental agreement fee. I had canceled my rental application with Mason Roy on May 20, 2023 but he is refusing to give me my refund and has not returned it to me as of today May 24, 2023. This is a fraud.
The entire transaction was done all through text messaging, Zelle, and Cash App. I began to think that this may be a scam. There was no phone conversation, what so ever. Everything was done through text messaging. There was a sense of urgency, on his part, to receive my funds. He provided excuses that he was working out of town to avoid meeting with him. He was only focused on me paying for application fee, deposit, and a first month's rent. This is a classic case of a fraud/scam artist. So I told Mason Roy that I'm canceling this process and want my refund back. He has not returned it to me.
I am hoping that reporting this fraudulent and a scam to Craigslist will avoid future victim(s) from this scam artist. Be advised that I am also reporting this scam to the FTC, and El Cajon Police Department.
