I thought the company named in the email, Satriun, was contacting me because they came across my resume through one of the Talent Networks on the job-seeking site, RedBalloon. Because of that, I replied to the email, stating my intention to learn more about the position and speak to the HR Manager. On 01/22/2025, the alleged Steven Berg replied with the following email (typed exactly as it appeared):
"Alright,
The HR Manager/Mr Kevin, will reach out to you via email.
Best regards,
Steven/Human Resources

On 01/22/2025, an individual named Kevin ***** sent me an email, stating the following (typed exactly as it appeared):
"Hello [my name]*,
I hope you are doing well.
Satriun is constantly pushing the boundaries of corporate performance management. We do that by speaking the same language as the office of the CFO. We understand the challenges modern finance organizations face and we get right down to the essence. Senior specialists who know all about transforming finance and integrating systems — real domain experts, ready to take on any challenge in the area of corporate performance management.
Satriun is the ideal consulting partner for independent advice, design and implementation in the Corporate Performance Management (CPM) field. We empower companies to elevate their financial consolidation, planning and reporting to a higher level. It is our mission to optimize and automate reporting processes at the corporate center through enhanced financial reporting and by doing so, enable them to make faster and better-informed decisions. We deliver by going beyond the ordinary and being a sparring partner to the Office of the CFO.
Satriun has offices in Amsterdam, Bucharest, Casablanca, Geneva, Milan, Munich, Paris, Tel-Aviv and Zurich.
This is a Personal Assistant position. This is strictly an online and work from home job. The working hours are flexible, and you can choose to work from anywhere of your choice. If you are employed, you are going to be working as a full employee and not an independent contractor.

On 01/23/2025, I replied via email that I reviewed the information but I had questions. The alleged Kevin ***** replied with the following email (typed exactly as it appeared):
"I would be happy to answer your questions. I am currently available to proceed with you.
Job briefing:

Our leadership needs an experienced and dedicated personal assistant to drive workflows and ensure high levels of performance among junior staff. We're looking for someone proactive, with strong communication skills, to fill this role. The personal assistant will offer comprehensive support in all areas of business, including communications, administration, project management, and client satisfaction. An ideal candidate will also feel comfortable working in a high-pressure office environment.
Objectives of this role:
Offer comprehensive assistance to executives and senior staff.
Maintain clear communication channels throughout the office.
Provide administrative support as needed in coordination with support staff.
Assist with project management and deliverable execution, keeping the team on track to meet key goals.

I replied in the affirmative to the alleged Kevin *****'s questions. He replied with the following (typed exactly as it appeared):

I replied in the affirmative to the alleged Kevin *****'s question. I then typed the name 'Satriun Corporation' into a search engine to find out if the company existed. I found the company website and looked under the career section to see if the role of personal assistant was open for employment. I couldn't find a listing on the company website for the position, so I submitted a message through the company website, indicating I had received an email about the personal assistant position, and I asked if there was, in fact, an opening for this role at the company. I received an email, indicating that my message had been received. (However, at the time of this submission, I haven't received a response from the company in response to my inquiry.)
On 01/24/2025, the alleged Kevin ***** sent the following email (typed exactly as it appeared):
"Good morning, [my name]*
Your timely response matters a lot. Send back the answers as soon as possible.
FIRST SECTION!
Tell me a little about yourself giving the following information:
Full Name:
Gender:
Walk me through your approach to coordinating a meeting.
How do you keep sensitive information confidential?
How do you prepare a presentation for an executive or supervisor?
Tell me about a time you had to juggle multiple tasks at once.
Tell me about a time you received a challenging request at the end of the day. How did you approach the situation?
Describe a time you were given an assignment with unclear instructions.
How do you ensure that all tasks are completed on time?

I replied with answers to each question, while not providing any identifiable information (such as dates, times, names, and locations); for the full name section, I only provided the alias that is listed on my resume. The alleged Kevin ***** replied with the following email (typed exactly as it appeared):

Again, I replied with answers to each question, while not providing any identifiable information (such as dates, times, names, and locations). On 01/25/2025, the alleged Kevin ***** replied with the following email (typed exactly as it appeared):
"Good morning , [my name]*
How are you doing today?
I am overjoyed to inform you that Satriun has decided to hire you as one of our new working staff. You are now an employee of Satriun! Congratulations!
You will undergo two weeks of training with your training supervisor. During that time, he/she will train you to work with the company-specific programs with much accuracy. Your training will be conducted online through your PC or cell phone.
You would be eligible for Benefits are 1 month of working with the company. Benefits offered are Health Insurance, Vacations, and Bonuses.
I believe you are ready to proceed to the next step, training and orientation.

I replied with an inquiry about when the training would begin and if I would be expected to pay for my training. The alleged Kevin ***** replied with the following (typed exactly as it appeared):
"You will be paid during training, working hours are flexible and you will be able to choose your own working hours after the training and orientation. It will start once your office equipments is ready.
Some information will be in the paperwork.
Rest assured; I will promptly furnish you with the necessary employment documents. May I kindly inquire if you possess a suitable space within your residence to establish your home office?

I was confused that I was being asked about a telephone number, because that information is provided on my resume. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I considered it might have been an oversight on the alleged Kevin *****'s part, that it was possible that information was overlooked when my resume was reviewed. However, I was also apprehensive now, so I replied, confirming I had access to a printer, yet claiming that I didn't have a mobile number or a reliable emergency contact. The alleged Kevin ***** replied, stating (exactly as it appeared), "I would like to give you a call." I replied, stating I could arrange to find access to a telephone. The alleged Kevin ***** replied, asking (exactly as it appeared), "What type of phone do you use at the moment?" I replied that I use a mobile phone that doesn't have service but does have reception via Wi-Fi. On 01/27/2025, the alleged Kevin ***** responded with the following (typed exactly as it appeared): "Alright, How are you doing today?" I replied that I was doing okay.
On 01/28/2025, the alleged Kevin ***** sent the following email (typed exactly as it appears):
"Hello [my name]*,
On behalf of the company and its staff, I would like to welcome you to the company. We hope you will be a valuable addition to the company and urge you to give it your best.
Attached to this email are an offer letter, Direct Deposit, W-4, I-9 forms from your employer (Satriun Corporation)
This shows your acceptance and commitment to serving us for the duration enclosed in the letter.
You are required to print and make a duplicate of it, and as required by law, your employment with the Company is contingent upon your providing legal proof of any of your identity ID cards, e.g., driver's licenses. (Front and back).
Lastly, we deal with sensitive materials, so we would like you to keep your wok as private as possible.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or problems.
All we need from you is good work and trust, and you will enjoy every moment of working with us.
I have attached your employment paperwork to this email.
Sign and send back a copy for documentation.

The email did, in fact, contain the attachments the alleged Kevin ***** outlined. However, I didn't open or download any of them. I replied with the following, stating I'd review the documents as soon as possible, while also writing the following:
"I do have a question. Prior to hearing from your colleague, Mr. Steven Berg, I hadn't heard of Satriun Corporation. I decided to research Satriun Corporation online, to gain a better understanding of the company, in the hopes of having insight into how I could best perform the duties of the role of Personal Assistant in the event the interview process resulted in my hiring. How did I come to the attention of Satriun Corporation for consideration for the role of Personal Assistant?"
I went back to the company website, with the purpose of doing some more research before I signed anything. What I found was that the emails the alleged Kevin ***** sent to me had copied and pasted, word-for-word, information directly from the company's 'About Satriun' page. This alarmed me.
On 01/29/2025, the alleged Kevin ***** sent the following (typed exactly as it appeared):
"Good morning,
Your resume was reviewed via Indeed, that is why we reached out to you.
Here is the company website: [website URL]
Scan and email back the documents once done.

The alleged Kevin *****'s response revealed that they hadn't found me through one of the Talent Networks on RedBalloon. Instead, they claimed they found me through Indeed. However, that couldn't be true, because I never submitted my resume to Indeed, because I don't even have an account with Indeed.
I reviewed the previous emails and found the individuals used three different email addresses to communicate with me. I also discovered that in the original email sent by the alleged Steven Berg, the details for recipient column read as "undiclosed-recipients" and my email address was BCC'd.
Instead of replying to the latest email, I searched for information about reporting job scams and found the ScamPulse.com Scam Tracker. While the Satriun Corporation appears to be a legitimate company, I don't think the individuals who contacted me are legitimate employees of the company. It seems this may have been a sophisticated scam attempt.
*I use an alias on my resume and in my email, in place of my legal, birth name. When the individuals contacted me by email, they addressed me by the alias, and it was the alias I provided when the alleged Kevin ***** asked for my full name. Additionally, I have more than one email address, and the individuals contacted me solely through the email I have with Mail.com.
