Applied for a Legal Assistant and Legal Researcher position at Stallings & Bischoff or SB Law Group. They have a website as well but upon further review it looks to be AI generated. I received this email in response. But it's a phishing scam. The software will try to upload the contents on your computer. The email I initially used [email protected] was taken down. They emailed me from [email protected]

I applied for a position posted on LinkedIn. Received email letter on 7/8/24 from HR director at SB-LawGroup.com stating that they were interested in me, asked me to fill out a questionnaire and download a link to their firm’s VPN so as to look at documents in their firm to better acclimate me prior to a phone interview. Link did not work, but did put a Trojan virus on my computer.

Once you click there, it will prompt you to fill out a questionnaire, then advise you to download a VPN program into your PC and grant permissions. I did not get that far because I grew suspicious and googled it to be nothing but scam.

I responded to a job posting on LinkedIn and received an email reply at 3:19 AM, well outside of business hours. The email address that replied was different than the one I initially contacted and they did not include a business signature with their name, title, contact information or address. The email contained a link to a Google Doc file and asked me to complete the document in order to schedule a phone interview. I decided to take a look at their website - sb-lawgroup.com. The site lists personnel of the company and their names are horribly misspelled. For example, their Founding Director - according to another page of the site - is suppose to be John Doe, but is misspelled as Jhon Doe. Their pictures are also generic stock photos, and when you click on each one, it simply reloads the page.

John Davidson

HR Manager at | Stallings & Bischoff

[email protected]

- Jacksonville, FL, USA • Jun 17, 2024

I sent a cover letter and resume to [email protected] for a job posting on LinkedIn and received the following email a week later from “John Davidson, HR Manager”:

Thank you for applying for the Legal Research (Remote) role at SB Law Group.

Job Type: Remote

Salary: *Redacted. Above average salary.

After thoroughly reviewing your qualifications, we are pleased to inform you that we are very interested in your candidacy and would like to move forward with the next steps of the application process.

Please complete the Google Form with the questions using the following link

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfmjWjRWx9KMejwhTq2WtBOJFnNwQhUHQH-SIB5... />

Thank you for your time, effort, and interest in this opportunity. We look forward to moving forward in the hiring process together.

Note, there is no “John Davidson” listed on LinkedIn at this firm. There is also an issue with verifying the validity of “Stallings & Bischoff“, as it appears to be the name of an outdated partnership between two attorneys. There is no current or reputable connection of said attorneys on LinkedIn, Google, or any other source, including the alternate business name, “SB Law Group”.

Requesting that candidates review a law firm’s internal documentation is a red flag, as that information is confidential. Coupled with another target’s ScamPulse.com posting, it is apparent that this job opportunity is a scam. I did not complete the questionnaire nor did I witness the alleged VPN hack.

Overall, it seems like a legitimate business was targeted. The scammers used a close enough name that links to a business with a working phone number, but only 1 negative review. There is also a WordPress website that may be interpreted as connected to this scam’s “firm”.

Job posted on Linked In with email to send resume. Email response that interview was requested but first a 4 question Google form and then at the end of the form they requested downloading their VPN via a link corporatecrm.org/software and install a .msix file. No download was done. Researching the firm name, website, attorney's names confirmed it is a scam.
