I am 70 years old and in hospice care for metastatic cancer. During the fall I started receiving letters saying that I had signed up for a credit card with Sears and I owed them $2.86. I ignored the letters knowing that I had not signed up for a credit card and thinking it was surely a scam. Why would I get a new credit card if I'm dying?! I kept receiving letters and because the whole thing was upsetting me, my sweet husband called the number on the letter to get the card cancelled if there really was one. Very rude people demanded my social security number which we refused to give. The woman who answered our call said she couldn't help us unless we gave her the social. We were kicked around the "organizational chart" and landed in the fraud department speaking with an angry man who again demanded that I give him at least the last four numbers!" I'm generally very soft spoken and don't raise my voice, but this character received a full measure of my anger, at least as much as I had energy to give. Then he said, "If you change you mind about giving me your last four numbers just give me a call."

1. The Sears MasterCard they say I authorized has a handy $6000 credit limit!

2. The "bill" has an account number: *** *** *** *** which they refused to listen to.

3. In addition to the address above there is another address on the payment portion of the bill, SEARS, PO Box 6268, Sioux Falls SD ***-**-***.

4. The woman we spoke to spoke very good English. The man sounded Middle Eastern we thought.

Thank you for listening. I'm not very tech savvy and it is way past my medication and bed time. Maybe tomorrow I can get someone to help scan and send the information we received.
