I was initially quoted a value of $361 on the company's website. After sending in the device per the company's instructions, yesterday I received an e-mail that the company had completed their inspection and was now valuing the device at $55, a $306 or 85% discount from their initial quote. The same device is currently selling on eBay for approximately $400. The company gives customers 5 days to refute their final offer, which can only be done by calling the company's customer service line, after which point their vastly below-market offer will be deemed to be accepted by the customer.
This morning, I called precisely when the company opened at 7am Pacific, was transferred and put on hold for 10 minutes, before I spoke to a sales rep named Melanie. Melanie claimed to be surprised by the huge discrepancy between the $361 initial quote and the $55 final quote, particularly since their own inspection confirmed that the device was in very good condition with only very slight signs of use and no technical problems, and said she would see if she could give me a better price. When I told her I was not interested in a new quote since I would not do business with a company that attempts to defraud its customers, she attempted to explain that "with all the new phones coming out, phone prices are declining in value." I explained to her that the market price of the device is approximately $400 based on current prices available on eBay (a value much closer to the company's initial valuation than to their final, extremely below-market valuation), an argument which she refuted. When it became clear that I was not interested in negotiating, Melanie agreed to return the device per the company's contractual obligation.
I have never before submitted a complaint about a business to the ScamPulse.com, but I found this to be such a clear, bold-faced example of a scam that I decided to do so for the first time. I sincerely hope something can be done to prevent this sham company from continuing to defraud consumers.
