On 5/3/2024 an L.L. Bean ad appeared on my Facebook feed. I opened it by clicking the "shop now" button, and was taken to what I thought was the official L.L. Bean website. I purchased a Women's Fleece-Lined PrimaLoft Vest for $21.80. The shipping cost was $15, and the total was $36.80. I charged it to my Capital One MasterCard. The confirming email I received appeared to be from L.L. Bean; however, their contact address was [email protected], NOT L.L.Bean. On 5/4/2024 my MasterCard statement showed my payment, but the vendor was not shown as L.L. Bean; instead, it was listed as "Next Future", for "groceries", and the amount was slightly different at $36.82. Upon going to the official L.L. Bean website, I saw that the same vest I thought I had ordered was $79.99 on their site, and was NOT on sale. I searched online for "newshopway.com", and it was rated as a "probable scam company". I immediately called Capital One, cancelled my old credit card, and ordered a new one. On 5/21/2024 I emailed "[email protected]" and asked where my package was. They responded by email, stating it would arrive in "15-10 days", and gave me a link for a package tracker.

I used the package tracker, which showed the package had supposedly left Hong Kong on 5/9/2024. On subsequent checks of the tracker, the package supposedly arrived at U.S. Customs on 5/20/2024. Around June 1st I checked again, and the tracker said my package had been delivered on 5/28/2024. I never received the package, nor any email communication from them stating it had arrived, or asking me to rate my purchase, etc. I emailed them again several times, and received a "mailer daemon" message. No phone number had ever been provided for me to call. It's now 6/10/2024, and my package never arrived. So obviously I was scammed and the package-tracking page was a fake, too. Lesson learned: NEVER use the "shop now" button on any Facebook ad, even for legitimate-appearing American companies such as L.L. Bean. Most Facebook "ads" are scams, and Facebook isn't doing anything to stop them.
